Three Iranian women footballers who had been granted asylum in Australia have decided to withdraw their applications and return to Iran, according to Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke. The announcement came after the players chose to rejoin their teammates on their journey home.
Earlier in the week, another team member who had sought refuge also reversed her decision and left Australia. This brings the number of players remaining in Australia after seeking asylum to three out of the original seven from the squad.
