Formula 1 and the International Automobile Federation have announced that the Grand Prix races scheduled for April in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia will not take place due to safety concerns linked to the ongoing conflict involving Iran. Both countries have experienced strikes amid escalating tensions following attacks by the United States and Israel on Iran. The decision was announced in Shanghai ahead of the Chinese Grand Prix.
Formula 1 stated that, after considering several alternatives, it was decided that no replacement races would be organized in April. The governing body emphasized that the safety and well being of teams, staff, and the wider racing community remains the top priority. Race promoters in both Bahrain and Saudi Arabia expressed support for the move.
Officials did not explicitly confirm whether the races would be rescheduled later in the year, though they left open the possibility of returning when circumstances allow. With no clear openings in the calendar, the cancellations create a five week gap between the Japanese Grand Prix in late March and the Miami race in early May, potentially reducing the season to its shortest schedule in several years.
