Israeli forces shot and killed a Palestinian couple and two of their young children while they were travelling by car in the town of Tammum in the northern occupied West Bank. The victims were identified as parents Ali and Waad Bani Odeh and their children, five-year-old Mohammed and seven-year-old Othman. Two other children in the vehicle, aged eight and 11, survived with minor injuries.
Israeli authorities said the incident occurred during a joint operation by the army and border police, claiming the vehicle accelerated toward forces who felt endangered and opened fire. Officials stated that the circumstances are under investigation. The Palestinian health ministry reported that the four family members arrived at hospital with gunshot wounds to the face and head.
The Palestinian Red Crescent said its crews were initially prevented from reaching the injured. The United Nations has reported heightened movement restrictions and rising violence across the occupied West Bank since the outbreak of regional conflict on 28 February, with more than one thousand Palestinians killed there since October 2023, including at least 231 children, according to the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.
