Iran's internet blackout deepens further, says internet watchdog

Iran's nationwide internet blackout has intensified, according to the monitoring group NetBlocks, disrupting access even for semi-official news organizations. Connectivity sharply declined around 12:00 p.m. Coordinated Universal Time, with several state media social media accounts ceasing updates at the same time.

The cause of the disruption remains unclear. This marks the first blackout of such scale during the current war, now entering its third week, although similar widespread outages were observed during protests in January.

Since the conflict began on February 28, internet access for the public has been heavily restricted. While many Iranians previously relied on virtual private networks or satellite connections to bypass controls, the latest outage appears to have cut off many of those options, leaving far fewer people able to get online.
