Last protester in immigration detention after Trump´s campus...

Leqaa Kordia, a 33-year-old Palestinian woman from the West Bank, was released on $100,000 bond after spending a year in immigration detention in Texas. She was the last person held following the Trump administration’s 2025 crackdown on pro-Palestinian campus protesters. An immigration judge ordered her release for the third time after the government declined to challenge the ruling.

Kordia had been arrested in 2025 during a check-in with immigration authorities, months after she participated in a 2024 protest outside Columbia University. Although the protest charges against her were dismissed and sealed, federal officials accused her of overstaying her visa and scrutinized money transfers she sent to relatives in the Middle East. A judge found overwhelming evidence supporting her explanation that the funds were intended to help family members affected by the war in Gaza.

During her detention, Kordia was hospitalized after suffering a seizure, and her attorneys argued that her neurological condition had worsened in custody. Upon release, she expressed relief and said she looked forward to reuniting with her family, while also pledging to advocate for others still detained. Her case had drawn less public attention than other campus-related arrests, as she was not a student and lacked institutional support.
