Iran has confirmed that senior official Ali Larijani was killed in a joint strike by the United States and Israel, along with his son Morteza, his aide Ali Reza Bayat and several bodyguards. The Supreme National Security Council said it was mourning its secretary, while President Masoud Pezeshkian described Larijani as a prominent figure who worked to promote regional peace and security.
Iran's Revolutionary Guard also announced that Basij commander Gholamreza Soleimani was killed in a separate Israeli strike, calling it a cowardly assassination. The Basij issued a warning to Israel, pledging to remain committed to the revolution.
Following the announcements, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed the Iranian public from the Israeli Air Force command center in Tel Aviv. He said Israeli aircraft were striking what he described as terror operatives and urged Iranians to 'celebrate' during Nowruz, adding, 'We're watching from above.'
