Slovenia asks EU to probe election interference allegedly involving Israeli intel firm Black Cube

Slovenia's prime minister has called on the European Union to investigate alleged election interference after secretly recorded videos surfaced days before the country's parliamentary vote. The recordings, released ahead of the March 22 election, appear to show a lobbyist, a lawyer, a former minister and a manager discussing ways to influence decisions within Prime Minister Robert Golob's centre-left coalition government.

A Slovenian rights group, an investigative journalist and two researchers claim the videos were produced by Israeli intelligence firm Black Cube and allege links to the opposition Slovenian Democratic Party led by former prime minister Janez Jansa. The party has denied any connection to the firm. Slovenia's foreign minister described the incident as a direct attack on national sovereignty.

Speaking at a summit in Brussels, Golob urged the European Commission to launch an investigation and seek an immediate threat assessment. French President Emmanuel Macron said Golob was the victim of clear interference by third countries and warned that foreign meddling, misinformation and content generated or altered using artificial intelligence are increasingly disrupting elections across Europe.
