European Union leaders pledged to fully mobilise diplomatic, legal, operational and financial tools to prevent uncontrolled migration toward the bloc, amid fears that the war with Iran could trigger a crisis similar to that of 2015. The commitment came after talks in Brussels focused on security and regional instability.
Qatar warned that strikes on its energy facilities would cut its liquefied natural gas export capacity by 17 percent and could take three to five years to repair, potentially forcing long term contract suspensions. Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the conflict could end sooner than expected, claiming internal divisions were emerging within Iran and asserting that Israel was prevailing militarily.
Netanyahu said Israel acted independently in striking an Iranian gas field and rejected claims that it had drawn the United States into the conflict. United States President Donald Trump said he had urged Israel to refrain from further such attacks and confirmed he would not deploy ground troops to Iran. Elsewhere, Lebanon renewed calls for a truce after more than 1,000 deaths from Israeli strikes, Iran sought clarification from Germany over the role of a military airbase, and Washington approved 16 billion dollars in arms sales to the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait.
