President Donald Trump has announced a five day postponement of all planned military strikes on Iran's power plants and energy infrastructure following what he described as 'very good and productive conversations' with Tehran. He said discussions over the past two days had focused on achieving a complete and total resolution of hostilities in the Middle East.
In a statement shared on his social media platform, Trump said he had instructed the Department of War to delay any action while negotiations continue throughout the week. The pause, he noted, is dependent on the success of ongoing talks.
The decision comes after recent threats of severe military action against Iran, including warnings of the destruction of its energy facilities if it failed to reopen the Strait of Hormuz to cargo traffic. Iran rejected the ultimatum and warned that any attack on its infrastructure would trigger retaliatory strikes on energy sites across the region, escalating tensions further.
