The administration of President Donald Trump has launched two new investigations into Harvard University, intensifying its scrutiny of major educational institutions. The United States Department of Education said its civil rights office is examining whether the university discriminates against students based on race, color, or national origin in violation of federal law.
One investigation will assess whether Harvard continues to use race-based preferences in admissions following the 2023 Supreme Court decision that ended affirmative action in higher education. The second probe focuses on allegations of antisemitism on campus.
Harvard has not immediately responded to the latest announcement but has previously stated that it opposes all forms of discrimination and is committed to addressing bigotry. University task forces reported last year that both Jewish and Muslim students had experienced incidents of bias and abuse.
