United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Washington is concerned about ongoing settler violence in the West Bank, emphasizing that the issue is being closely monitored. He noted that President Donald Trump has previously opposed any change to the status quo in the territory, including potential annexation efforts.
Rubio expressed confidence that the Israeli government would address the violence, pointing out that some perpetrators have also targeted Israeli security forces. He suggested that these incidents have drawn concern within Israel itself and could prompt government action.
Despite these assurances, settler attacks against Palestinians have continued on a near-daily basis, with most incidents not leading to arrests. The Israeli government has invested heavily in settlement outposts, while recently redeploying a military battalion from the northern border to the West Bank in response to escalating tensions.
