Family members of Green Party leader Zack Polanski have voiced fears they would feel compelled to leave the United Kingdom if he were ever to become prime minister, citing deep concerns over the party’s direction under his leadership. The party is set to debate a controversial motion at its spring conference that describes Zionism as racism and calls for sanctions on Israel, prompting accusations that it is moving away from its traditional environmental focus.
Relatives who no longer speak to Polanski claim he has prioritized political ambition over his Jewish heritage, despite previously expressing pride in his background. They argue that the proposed motion, which would formally position the party as anti Zionist, would alienate many Jewish people and ignore widely accepted definitions of anti Semitism.
Jewish members within the party have warned that the motion could be perceived as an attack on the right of Jewish people to seek safety and security. External campaign groups have also criticized the party’s stance, while a party spokesperson defended Polanski, condemning what they described as anti Semitic harassment directed at him since his election.
