India has delivered 38,000 metric tonnes of fuel to Sri Lanka, including 20,000 metric tonnes of diesel and 18,000 metric tonnes of petrol, to help address supply disruptions caused by the ongoing conflict in West Asia. The emergency shipment arrived in Colombo as part of support coordinated after discussions between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
President Dissanayake expressed gratitude for India’s swift assistance, noting that the aid followed recent talks on the fuel shortages affecting the island nation. He also thanked India’s external affairs minister for close coordination during the crisis.
Sri Lanka has been facing difficulties sourcing fuel from suppliers in West Asia and Singapore, prompting authorities to seek India’s help. In response to supply pressures, the government imposed fuel quotas in mid March to prevent hoarding, though officials have said existing stocks are expected to last until the end of May.
