Rabbi Shmuel Eliyahu, the Chief Rabbi of Tzfat, voiced strong support for Israel’s increased ground presence in Lebanon, describing it as essential for protecting communities along the northern border. Speaking to soldiers who sought his blessing before entering the area, he expressed hope for their safety and success in carrying out their mission.
In a daily lesson, Rabbi Eliyahu framed the military activity in religious and prophetic terms, citing the prophet Ezekiel and describing the operation as part of a broader spiritual vision. He emphasized that, unlike previous incursions that were followed by withdrawal, this time the objective should be to remain and establish a lasting presence.
The Uri Tzafon movement, which advocates for Jewish settlement near the Israel-Lebanon border, welcomed his remarks. The group called for a shift from temporary military operations to a long-term strategy that would include renewed settlement in southern Lebanon, urging the government to adopt this approach and act decisively.
