The cost of filling a typical family diesel car has risen above £100 for the first time in more than three years, as fuel prices surge amid escalating tensions in the Middle East. Average diesel prices reached 182.8 pence per litre on Tuesday, pushing the cost of filling a 55-litre tank to £100.52.
Diesel prices have climbed by 40 pence per litre since the conflict began on February 28, while petrol has increased by 20 pence to an average of 152.8 pence per litre. Analysts indicate that petrol prices could stabilise if oil costs do not rise further, but diesel prices are expected to continue increasing.
The sharp rise in oil prices has been driven by disruptions linked to Iran's control over tankers passing through the Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil shipping route. Higher wholesale oil costs have directly impacted fuel prices at forecourts.
