Australian billionaire Adrian Portelli says he feels safer in Dubai than in Melbourne despite ongoing Iranian missile and drone attacks on the city. Three civilians have been killed and dozens injured as Iran intensifies strikes across the Middle East following the death of its Supreme Leader, with prominent landmarks and key infrastructure in Dubai hit.
Drones have struck Dubai Airport, the Palm Jumeirah hotel, and the Burj Al Arab, while debris from intercepted weapons has damaged homes and caused fires, including at a major port. Authorities in the United Arab Emirates report that air defenses have intercepted hundreds of missiles and drones, but casualties and significant disruption have continued.
Airspace across much of the region remains closed, grounding flights and stranding tens of thousands of travelers, including more than one hundred thousand Australians. Australia’s Foreign Affairs Minister said the government is prioritizing assistance for citizens once commercial flights resume and has urged those affected to register with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
