One person killed as oil tanker hit off Oman coast

One person was killed after an oil tanker was attacked off the coast of Muscat, according to authorities in Oman. The incident comes as Iran continues its campaign of retaliation across the Gulf region.

The tanker, identified as the MKD VYOM and flying the flag of the Republic of the Marshall Islands, was struck by an unmanned boat about 52 nautical miles from the Muscat Governorate. The vessel was carrying approximately 59,463 metric tons of cargo at the time of the attack.

The strike caused an explosion and a fire in the ship’s main engine room. Omani officials confirmed that one crew member, an Indian national, was killed in the incident.
