Kayla Friedman, a 25 year old originally from New York who has lived in Israel for seven years, insisted on going forward with her wedding despite rocket fire from Iran. After waking to sirens the day before the ceremony, she declared that no Iranian terrorist would change her plans.
Friedman and her groom, Evyatar Polster, were married according to Jewish law at Kibbutz Shluchot, where Polster was born. With nationwide restrictions canceling large gatherings, their planned 500 guest celebration was replaced by a small ceremony for about 50 people on a lawn beside a bomb shelter, with the meal and dancing moved into a fortified area.
Friends said the couple, who met on a religious dating application, chose not to postpone the wedding in keeping with Jewish custom. Local emergency officials approved the limited event, and no additional sirens sounded during the ceremony, which the officiating rabbi described as a miracle.
