Several golfers competing on the Saudi-backed LIV Golf tour are stranded in Dubai after air travel across the Middle East was halted due to escalating military conflict. The disruption follows joint strikes by the United States and Israel on Iran, which were met with retaliatory missile and drone attacks targeting locations in the United Arab Emirates.
Players including Lee Westwood, Laurie Canter, Thomas Detry, Sam Horsfield, Anirban Lahiri, Tom McKibbin, Adrian Meronk and Caleb Surratt had been preparing for this week's event in Hong Kong when the violence unfolded. Flights were suspended across much of the region, leaving them unable to depart.
Surratt described the experience as 'terrifying,' saying missile interceptions were visible over the weekend. By Tuesday, however, he reported that daily life in Dubai appeared to have stabilized, with residents returning to normal activities. He is hoping to secure travel to Hong Kong before the tournament begins on Thursday.
