The United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child has urged that children must not become victims of the ongoing war in the Middle East, expressing alarm over reports of strikes on civilian infrastructure, including schools and hospitals. The appeal follows allegations of an air strike on a school in the Iranian city of Minab that reportedly killed more than 150 people, many of them students. The United States and Israel have not confirmed the attack, and the reported toll has not been independently verified.

According to Iranian state media, funerals were held for at least 165 people said to have been killed in the strike, with images showing large crowds mourning in Minab. The committee stressed that children are among the most vulnerable in armed conflicts and must never be treated as collateral damage.

The committee, composed of 18 independent experts, monitors implementation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, which requires countries to safeguard children's rights, including during armed conflict. It called for an immediate and sustained ceasefire and urged all parties to ensure the protection of schools and hospitals and allow humanitarian access to children in need.
