Clashes erupted in Khan Younis as Hamas operatives allegedly targeted a militia supported by Israel, according to the militia’s commander. Palestinian media outlets affiliated with Hamas published footage showing armed men firing in the area, claiming they were confronting local militias.
Hussam al-Astal, who leads a militia formed last year in Khan Younis with Israeli backing, said his fighters were attacked after distributing food to civilians. He stated that Hamas operatives opened fire on about 20 of his men and launched a rocket-propelled grenade as they were leaving the area.
Al-Astal said one of his fighters was killed and two others were lightly wounded. Although his men were armed, he said they did not return fire to avoid harming civilians present at the scene and withdrew shortly after the attack.
