A new Camera Museum is opening in Al-Aziziyah, Alkhobar, founded by collector Majid Al-Ghamdi as part of the larger Taybeen Museum located in his former family home. The space is dedicated entirely to the history and evolution of cameras, marking what he believes is the first museum of its kind in the region.
The museum features a detailed historical timeline that traces the development of photography over more than a thousand years, from the earliest camera models to modern digital single lens reflex cameras. Informational displays in Arabic and English guide visitors through the technological and artistic transformation of image-making, highlighting photography’s role in preserving memory and shaping human understanding of light and time.
Interactive elements encourage visitors to engage directly with the exhibits, including themed photo areas such as an upside-down room designed to create optical illusions. The experience concludes with a playful reference to the Kingdom’s automated traffic enforcement camera system, offering a familiar and humorous reminder of the camera’s presence in everyday life.
