The United Arab Emirates is investigating a drone strike that caused a fire near the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in Abu Dhabi. The defence ministry said three drones entered the country from the western border direction on Sunday, with two intercepted and a third striking an electrical generator outside the plant’s inner perimeter. Officials confirmed there were no injuries and no impact on radiological safety levels.

Authorities said precautionary measures were taken and that all units at the facility continue to operate normally. The Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation stated that the fire did not affect the plant’s safety systems. The International Atomic Energy Agency said it was monitoring the situation closely, with its director general expressing grave concern and calling for maximum military restraint around nuclear facilities.

The source of the drone has not been identified. The incident comes amid ongoing regional tensions following months of conflict involving Iran, the United States and Israel. Although a ceasefire was agreed in April, sporadic exchanges have continued, and regional shipping routes remain under strain.
