The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) are expanding the 'security zones' in Gaza to include the city of Rafah, after a ground offensive in May left parts of the city in ruins. The IDF previously seized a strip of land along the border with Egypt to prevent weapons smuggling. The IDF has issued evacuation orders that cover 97% of Rafah, and displaced people are being directed to tent camps in the al-Mawasi area. Defence Minister Israel Katz visited the new corridor and stated that the IDF is eliminating terrorists and increasing the security zones of Israel.
