Archaeologists in St. Augustine, Florida, recently excavated part of the city's historic district, uncovering remnants of its short-lived British past. The excavation revealed the dried-up moat of a British redoubt, or small outpost, from the 18th century. The artifacts found were few and far between, surprising the archaeologists. The discovery sheds light on a 20-year period when the British controlled both East and West Florida.
