However, some in the community are criticizing this shift, citing concerns of authoritarianism and chilling speech. This fear stems from centuries of persecution and the belief that standing up for themselves will lead to more hatred. A small, radical segment of the community, who do not represent the consensus of the Jewish community, dismisses the voices of Jews who do not fit their mold. Eric Fingerhut, the CEO of the Jewish Federations of North America, advised Federation CEOs not to sign onto a statement that was misleading and divisive, as it did not reflect the needs of Jewish students and families living in fear on campuses and in cities worldwide.
