The Trump administration has reversed the U.S. government's longstanding position that the U.N. agency for Palestinian refugees, known as UNRWA, was protected from civil liability. The change in position comes as part of a lawsuit that aims to hold UNRWA accountable for a deadly attack on Israel by Hamas. The lawsuit alleges that UNRWA aided Hamas by allowing weapons storage and deployment centers in its schools and medical clinics and by employing Hamas members. UNRWA spokesperson Juliet Touma stated that the agency will continue to make its case before the court.
