Antisemitism has revealed the moral decay in societies throughout history. The Holocaust and the Oct. 7 atrocities both exposed the deep flaws in societies that appeared to have achieved lofty moral goals. The antisemitism of the Holocaust shattered the illusion of a new and enlightened Europe, while the antisemitism of 2023 has exposed the hypocrisy at the heart of the modern human rights movement. The antisemitism we face today is more openly religious, fueled by fundamentalist strains of Islam. However, unlike during the Holocaust, the current wave of antisemitism has also galvanized support for the Jewish people, with many non-Jews standing by Israel and its values.
