Agony & Ecstasy

Jain Joseph, an altar designer from Kochi, fulfilled his dream of meeting Pope Francis after years of crafting church altars. Joseph's journey to the Vatican began when he renovated an altar at his home parish, impressing the church's vicar who sent him to St Peter's Basilica. After meeting Cardinal Mar George Alencherry and sharing his desire to meet the Pope, Joseph was granted permission and traveled to the Vatican with his family. During a Papal audience, Joseph's son caught the Pope's attention by waving a cap, leading to a playful exchange of caps between the Pope and the boy. Joseph later had a scheduled meeting with Pope Francis where he mentioned his family waiting outside, and the Pope instructed his guards to bring them in for a personal meeting.
