Roman pig jaw burial found at Legio -- first evidence in the Levant

Archaeologists at the legionary cemetery of Legio in the Levant have discovered a pit containing only the jaws of thirteen domestic pigs, indicating a Roman funerary banquet ritual. The deposit, found near soldier graves, suggests the sacrifice of pigs during cemetery rites, aligning with Roman literary descriptions of such ceremonies.
