Police fail to arrest supporters of banned group Palestine Action

Supporters of the banned group Palestine Action held peaceful protests in Totnes and Edinburgh, displaying signs for an hour without being arrested, despite a recent wave of over 200 arrests since the group's proscription on July 5. The protests, organized by Defend Our Juries, aimed to challenge the ban and highlight concerns over free speech and government policy on Gaza. Last week, police detained activists at similar rallies in several cities, but today officers did not intervene, prompting campaigners to question the enforceability of the ban. The proscription of Palestine Action, which criminalizes public support for the group, has drawn criticism from human rights officials and public figures, who argue it undermines civil liberties and protest rights.
