Dozens of Palestinians killed seeking aid, Gaza civil defence ministry says

At least 48 Palestinians were reported killed while seeking aid in Gaza, according to hospital officials, with conflicting accounts over the circumstances surrounding the incident. Additional fatalities were reported near an aid distribution centre in Rafah, though the organisation involved denied any deaths at its sites. The Israeli military stated that warning shots were fired at a distance after a group was deemed a threat, and questioned the reported casualty figures. The United Nations and humanitarian groups warn that famine conditions are worsening in Gaza, with over 1,000 Palestinians killed while trying to access food aid since late May, and more than 150 deaths attributed to malnutrition since the conflict began. International calls for increased aid access continue, as diplomatic efforts intensify and more countries signal support for Palestinian statehood at the United Nations.
