Marisa Fox grew up hearing fantastical stories from her mother Tamar, who claimed to have been a freedom fighter in pre-state Israel. After Tamar's death, Fox discovered that her mother had concealed her true identity and a traumatic past as a Holocaust survivor. Through years of research and interviews with surviving women from the Gabersdorf forced labor camp, Fox uncovered the reality of her mother's experiences as a Jewish teenager subjected to forced labor and sexual violence during the war. Her journey led to the creation of the documentary 'My Underground Mother,' which explores not only her mother's hidden history but also the untold stories of resilience and suffering among Jewish girls in Nazi camps.
