Jake Retzlaff, former Jewish football star at Mormon university, to play for Tulane

Jake Retzlaff, a Jewish quarterback who previously played for Brigham Young University, is starting a new chapter at Tulane University in New Orleans. Retzlaff left BYU after being suspended for violating the school's honor code, following a civil lawsuit that was later dismissed. Despite being one of only a few Jewish students at BYU, Retzlaff embraced his identity and even secured a sponsorship with a well-known kosher food brand. At Tulane, which has a large Jewish student population, Retzlaff is excited for a fresh start and is competing for the starting quarterback position. He chose Tulane for the opportunity to play under coach Jon Sumrall and is motivated to prove himself, even as a walk-on without a scholarship.
