The group claims they are the target of a smear campaign due to their political views, particularly their support for Palestine and criticism of Israel. Despite criticism from politicians and the BBC's initial decision not to live stream their Glastonbury performance, Dunbar praised the band's musicianship and said decisions about broadcasting are for the BBC to make. Kneecap have denied supporting banned groups and apologised to families of murdered politicians, while police have decided not to pursue further action over their Glastonbury set.
