Suspect in shooting of Israel embassy couple faces hate crime and murder charges

A man from Chicago, Mr Rodriguez, has been charged with hate crimes and murder after allegedly shooting two people connected to the Israel embassy in Washington DC. Prosecutors say he traveled to the city with a handgun, researched a Jewish community event, and fired 20 shots at the victims as they left the venue. Authorities report that Mr Rodriguez expressed support for violence against Israelis both online and in a written document, and told police at the scene that his actions were motivated by support for Palestine. The victims, Mr Lischinsky and Ms Milgrim, were reportedly planning to become engaged, and the case includes allegations of substantial planning and intent, making Mr Rodriguez eligible for the death penalty.
