The Marshall Islands, previously the only country in the world without a national soccer team, has finally taken the field. Their debut match was held in Northwest Arkansas, home to the largest Marshallese community outside the islands, and served as a practical location for facing Caribbean opponents.
Founded in 2021 by local enthusiasts and British volunteers, the Marshall Islands Soccer Federation is now pursuing international recognition. Securing membership with the global soccer governing body could unlock significant funding, but the team must first join a continental confederation. After a failed attempt to join the Oceania group due to travel limitations, officials are now considering applications to North and Central American or Asian soccer organizations.
