Irish author Sally Rooney has declared her continued support for Palestine Action, despite the group's recent ban by the United Kingdom government. Rooney stated in an Irish Times opinion piece that she will keep donating proceeds from her work, including earnings from BBC adaptations, to the group. The ban has led to over 700 arrests, with more than 500 people detained at a London demonstration last week.
Home Secretary Cooper has criticized the group, citing incidents such as the break-in at Elbit Systems UK and referencing an 'Underground Manual' allegedly used to guide attacks and evade law enforcement. Cooper argued that these actions go beyond legitimate protest and expressed concern about future plans for attacks.
Rooney condemned the government's decision, saying it undermines basic rights and freedoms, and warned of serious consequences for cultural and intellectual life in the United Kingdom. The BBC and Rooney's management have been approached for comment.
