Judge Menachem Mizrahi has rejected a police appeal to lift restrictions on Yonatan Urich, a former advisor to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, highlighting significant irregularities in police and prosecution conduct. Attorney Eyal Basarglik criticized authorities for initially withholding case evidence and pursuing severe measures, including accusations of treason and espionage, without substantive grounds. Evidence presented in court contradicted the police's main claim that Urich posed a security risk, revealing that Netanyahu did not view Qatar as an enemy state. Basarglik suggested that the proceedings were intended to pressure Urich and another advisor to become state witnesses against Netanyahu, despite the judge's assessment that there was no basis for detention or indictment. He also raised concerns about the lack of effective oversight of law enforcement and recommended considering legal action against the state once the case concludes.
Another hearing in the case is scheduled for Tuesday.
