German prosecutors have charged a Russian national with terrorism-related offenses, alleging he planned an attack on the Israeli Embassy in Berlin and intended to join a militant group in Pakistan. The suspect, identified as Akhmad E., was arrested at Berlin's airport in February while preparing to leave the country. Authorities say he researched explosive-making online but was unable to obtain the required materials, and also translated propaganda for the group into Russian and Chechen.
Prosecutors claim he financed his trip to Pakistan by selling expensive smartphones and sent a video pledging loyalty to the group before his departure. The indictment has been submitted to a Berlin court, which will decide if the case proceeds to trial.
