'Enough is enough': Palestine support swells

Hundreds of thousands of people have marched in cities and towns across Australia, demonstrating a surge of support for Palestinians facing famine and violence in Gaza. Backed by over 250 organisations and prominent figures, rallies in more than 40 locations called for sanctions and an end to Australia's arms trade with Israel. Organisers estimate up to half a million participants nationwide, reflecting growing momentum since the Sydney Harbour Bridge march in August.

The protests come after the United Nations confirmed famine in parts of Gaza, intensifying calls for the Australian government to take stronger action. Demonstrators in major cities, including Melbourne and Brisbane, demanded sanctions and boycotts, while union leaders and politicians urged the federal government to halt military trade with Israel. The rallies mark the 97th consecutive weekend of protests for Gaza in Melbourne, with similar actions taking place in other capitals and regional centres.

Organisers and activists emphasised the urgency of the situation, citing the high death toll among Palestinians and the need for immediate government intervention. The protests have drawn criticism from officials regarding route changes and crowd control, but participants remain resolute in their demands for justice and accountability.
