Grief, defiance and hope: 30,000 gather in Tel Aviv to mark two years since Oct. 7

On Tuesday night, around 30,000 people gathered in Tel Aviv's Yarkon Park to mark two years since the deadly October 7 attack on southern Israel. The memorial, organized by survivors and families of victims and hostages, replaced an official state ceremony and featured powerful speeches, music, and visual tributes to those lost and those still held captive in Gaza.

Speakers called for accountability and a renewed commitment to healing and rebuilding, while the crowd honored the memory of loved ones with symbolic gestures and heartfelt testimonies. The event highlighted ongoing grief, the mental health toll of the war, and the hope for the return of the remaining hostages.

As negotiations for a ceasefire and hostage release continue, attendees expressed both sorrow and determination, vowing to create a better future for Israel and to ensure that the failures of the past are never repeated.
