A ceasefire has come into effect in Gaza as Israeli forces completed a partial withdrawal, moving back to positions marked in a recent White House map. This move marks the beginning of a seventy-two-hour period during which hostages are expected to be released, according to United States officials. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that the operation to return all hostages is ongoing and reiterated intentions to disarm Hamas and demilitarise Gaza, though Hamas has not agreed to disarm. Despite the ceasefire, reports indicated that air strikes continued into the early hours, and casualties were still being reported. As troops pulled back, Hamas security forces appeared in areas vacated by the Israeli military, while thousands of displaced Palestinians made their way north, many on foot, carrying their remaining belongings through damaged streets.
