Eliyahu 'Churchill' Margalit, a respected cattleman and horseman, was a longtime member of the Nir Oz kibbutz and the 'Riders of the South' horseback riding group. On October 7, while tending to his horses, Margalit was killed during a terrorist attack on the kibbutz and his body was taken to Gaza. The attack also resulted in the destruction of the stables and the theft of eight horses. Margalit is remembered by his wife Dafna, their three children, and three grandchildren. The stables eventually reopened, but the community continues to mourn his loss.
