Warfare expert calls Gaza rebuilding plan 'Disneyland strategy' to defeat Hamas

A new strategy for Gaza's reconstruction is being considered by United States and Israeli officials, focusing on rebuilding areas under Israeli control while leaving Hamas-controlled zones untouched. This approach, described by warfare expert John Spencer as the 'Disneyland strategy', aims to create a visible example of peace and prosperity in cleared areas, hoping to inspire change and demonstrate what life could be like without Hamas.

Currently, about 58 percent of Gaza is under Israeli control, including Rafah, parts of Khan Younis, and northern neighborhoods, while Hamas retains control over the remainder, including Gaza City. The plan involves clearing these areas of Hamas influence and rebuilding infrastructure, markets, and schools to foster hope among residents and encourage international support for stabilization.

Local anti-Hamas factions, with some support from Israel, are already pushing back against Hamas, and experts believe these efforts could expand, leading to enclaves of self-rule. However, the strategy is not seen as a quick solution, and challenges remain in establishing stable governance and protecting civilians from ongoing violence. The ultimate goal is to offer Gazans a tangible alternative to life under Hamas and lay the groundwork for a future transitional authority.
