A historic synagogue in Kobryn, Belarus, is being offered for auction at a starting price of just $72,000. The red-brick building is one of the last surviving remnants of the city's once-thriving Jewish community, which was decimated during World War II. During the war, the synagogue was incorporated into the Kobryn Ghetto, and tragic events unfolded near its walls. After the Holocaust, it remained the sole synagogue in the city but was never restored for religious use, instead serving various industrial purposes, including as a beverage factory in the 1980s.
The auction highlights the building's significance as a rare physical link to Kobryn's Jewish heritage, raising questions about its future and the preservation of local history.
