'Teflon Tim' rode out several BBC controversies - but now he's come unstuck

Tim Davie, known as 'Teflon Tim' for his ability to weather numerous controversies, has resigned from his position as director-general after a tumultuous period at the broadcaster. Alongside head of news Deborah Turness, Davie stepped down following a week marked by intense scrutiny and criticism. His tenure was marred by several headline-making missteps, particularly in news coverage, which undermined the organisation's reputation for trust and accountability.

Earlier this year, Davie managed to avoid resignation after controversy surrounding a documentary narrator's family ties, but recent events proved too challenging to overcome. A leaked memo from a former adviser accused the broadcaster of systemic bias on sensitive issues, further eroding confidence in leadership. Despite attempts to address these crises, Davie's reluctance to confront the press and take decisive action ultimately led to his departure.
