Lab-grown milk set to start pouring into Israeli dairy aisles, cafes

Israeli food tech company Remilk is set to introduce its lab-grown, cow-free milk to local supermarkets and restaurants, following a partnership with Gad Dairies. The new products, branded as 'New Milk', are made using dairy proteins produced through yeast-based fermentation, resulting in milk that is nearly identical in taste, texture, and nutrition to traditional cow's milk but free from lactose, cholesterol, antibiotics, and growth hormones. The initial offerings will include 3% fat milk and vanilla-flavored milk, with a special Barista line for cafes and restaurants launching within days. Remilk's products are also kosher-parve and vegan-friendly, catering to a wide range of dietary preferences and restrictions.

The company, which has secured regulatory approval in Israel, Singapore, and the United States, plans to expand internationally, with talks underway for entry into the American market. Remilk's milk alternatives are expected to be priced similarly to existing plant-based options, but the company emphasizes that their product more closely replicates real milk. The launch comes as the global dairy alternative market continues to grow, with increasing competition from other startups using precision fermentation to create animal-free dairy proteins.
