Eight people who could replace Tim Davie as BBC director-general

Tim Davie has announced his resignation as director-general of the British Broadcasting Corporation, prompting speculation about who will take on one of the most influential roles in British media. The position, which oversees the corporation's television, radio, and online output, is crucial to the future direction of the broadcaster. Several high-profile figures are being discussed as possible successors, including former and current executives from major broadcasters and media companies.

Among the contenders are Charlotte Moore, former chief content officer at the British Broadcasting Corporation and now chief executive at Left Bank Pictures; James Harding, former director of British Broadcasting Corporation News; Jay Hunt, creative director for Apple TV+ in Europe; and Alex Mahon, former chief executive of Channel 4. Other names in the mix include Dame Carolyn McCall of ITV, Sir Trevor Phillips of Sky News, Jonathan Munro, the British Broadcasting Corporation's global news director, and Kate Phillips, the current chief content officer. The final decision on Davie's replacement will be made by the British Broadcasting Corporation Board in the coming months.
