India is navigating a rapidly changing global landscape, as power consolidates between the United States and China, creating new security challenges and shifting alliances. The country faces unresolved tensions along its borders, increased militarisation in the Indo-Pacific, and growing Chinese influence in its neighbourhood. While India has deepened strategic partnerships with both the United States and Russia, these relationships must be integrated into a comprehensive, long-term national security strategy. Without a formal strategy, India risks strategic vulnerability despite its significant military and technological capabilities. The urgent call is for India to move from reactive policies to proactive power balancing, anchored by a codified national security strategy that can guide its military transformation and ensure its autonomy in a G2-dominated world.
